The Downers Grove Stampede is a competitive girls travel basketball program designed to help players build their skills and get ready for high school basketball at Downers Grove South (DGS). As a nonprofit community organization, it is guided by a volunteer Board committed to providing a positive, safe, and challenging experience that supports player development.

Teams may include players who live outside the DGS district when necessary to help form competitive and balanced rosters. Decisions regarding the inclusion of non-DGS players are made by the Stampede Board.

Tryouts take place annually on two Sundays in August. Athletes are encouraged to attend both sessions. Check the Stampede website and social media for specific tryout dates in mid-June.

The Stampede season begins in late October and runs through late February/March.

No. Players are expected to fully commit to the Stampede program and may not be rostered on another feeder or AAU team during the winter season. Players are permitted to participate on their middle school or junior high school teams, and Stampede will make every effort to accommodate those schedules.

The teams compete in the DuPage Youth Travel Basketball League (DYTBL). Teams typically play between 20 and 30 games throughout the season.

TBA - the cost should be around $600-$700 for the Stampede. Uniforms, if needed, are an additional cost ranging from $75 to $125 depending on size.

Coaches for the program are selected from a pool of interested individuals by the Stampede Board. Anyone interested in coaching, whether as a head coach or assistant coach, should reach out to the Board to express their interest.

Stampede is a competitive program that requires consistent participation. Most teams will practice two times per week for about 1.5 hours per session. While schedules may differ by age level, regular attendance at practices and games plays a key role in individual improvement and team success. Players are encouraged to make basketball a priority during the season to maximize development and team chemistry.
